Celebrating John Sparks - A Legacy of Service and Dedication

On July 2, we gathered at the Historic Lowndes County Courthouse to honor John Sparks. It was a memorable event celebrating not just one, but two important milestones: John’s 70th birthday and his retirement after more than 28 years of service.

In a surprise announcement, Mayor Scott Matheson and Commission Chairman Bill Slaughter officially proclaimed the day as John Sparks Day—a fitting tribute to someone who has made a lasting impact on our clinic and the broader community.

Clinic Director Amanda Stone shared a heartfelt letter from Board Chair Jeanine Boddie-LaVan, expressing the deep appreciation we all feel for John’s leadership, compassion, and commitment over the years.

Another meaningful moment came with the announcement that our patient assistance fund has been renamed the John Sparks Patient Assistance Fund. This change reflects John’s dedication to ensuring that patients receive the help they need.

John’s work has made a real difference in the lives of countless individuals, and his contributions will continue to shape our clinic long after his retirement. As he and his wife Linda begin this next chapter, we thank him for everything he has done—and we wish them all the best in the years ahead.

Thank you, John. You will be missed.

PHC in the Community

CAMC3301

We’re always grateful for the chance to share our mission with the community. In June, John Sparks spoke at the New Covenant Church Generation 2 Generation lunch, offering insight into the heart of our work at PHC and highlighting meaningful ways people can get involved. Around the same time, our Director of Development, Britt Eben, had the opportunity to speak to the Leadership Lowndes Class of 2025 during their Healthcare Day at SGMC Health. These moments help us connect with new audiences and continue building strong community partnerships.

Behind the Scenes: Expanding Our Reach

PRIDE_June Academy 2025

As part of our ongoing efforts to grow and strengthen our mission, PHC has partnered with PRIDE Philanthropy—a firm that works exclusively with healthcare nonprofits.

In June, Executive Director David Crawford and Director of Development Britt Eben attended PRIDE Academy training in Asheville, NC. It was a valuable opportunity to learn alongside others in the nonprofit healthcare field and explore new strategies to expand our impact. Stay tuned for more information as we begin planning upcoming campaigns to better serve our community!
